For more than 10 years now, realizing the special needs of Physically differently abled people, Our Foundation has committed itself to developing opportunity that can provide PWDs a livelihood in a range of disciplines. It does so through its integrated programs that support the personal and technical skills needed to thrive in a competitive job market. This integrated approach prepares participants not just for initial job placement, but also for ongoing learning and self-improvement, helping to promote social inclusion and integration. The partnership with industry leading companies has enabled the foundation to adapt its curriculum in line with today's demand, streamlining education and providing access to talent that have actual uses to their skills.
The strength of the foundation is in its vocational training programs that are customized to address a variety of PWD’s requirements. The classes teach a range of skills, from tailoring and computer training, to data entry and hospitality. One such example are tailoring courses that equip the trainees for self-employment or jobs in the textile industry, while computer and data entry training can help them find jobs in the digital job market. Hospitality and retail program, meanwhile, develops the interpersonal communication and customer service habits that are also critical in service-based sectors. These onto-job training schemes not only add to the professional skills, but also act as a bridge for trained PWD candidates and potential employers.
In addition to technical capability, we are focusing on soft skills and communication. The trainings are aimed at workplace behavior, teamwork and confidence-building — all essential components for career development. Through learning how to negotiate workplace politics, participate in team-based projects and develop personal confidence, PWDs are placed in a position to better be able to adapt into different organizational structures. This attention to soft skills isn’t just good for individual performance, but contributes to an inclusive, team-focused workplace.
Living in the digital era, you can’t afford not to be skilled in using a computer. To address, we developed digital literacy courses that cover rudimentary computer use (word processing and internet browsing) through more advanced skills (data analysis and programming). Designed especially for PWD, the courses allow participants to study online with awarded courses tailor-made to make sure they are delivered in an accessible way, preparing them for work across a broad spectrum of professions. By closing the digital divide, the foundation boosts employability and fosters inclusion in an industry increasingly reliant on technology.
Creating opportunities for PWD and to become entrepreneurs by providing them mentorship and support in starting up self-employment and small business activities, outside their formal employment. Understanding the obstacles that confront disabled entrepreneurs, the Ability Foundation matches them with experienced mentors who offer assistance in both business and personal growth. It’s also about enabling participants to hone resilience, develop networks and confidence that are absolutes necessities for enterprise. The foundation encourages and develops innovation and empowerment with PWD, enriching both livelihoods and existing skill sets which in turn results in economic independence and increased sociality for the disabled.
Since 2014, Abhivruddhi Foundation has been at the forefront of empowering individuals with disabilities across Karnataka.
